NAVCA campaigning to make the Localism Bill good for local communities
The report stage of the Localism Bill in the House of Commons is taking place next week, prior to the Bill’s Third Reading. This is the stage at which MPs table amendments to the Bill. Through our Real Power for Communities Campaign, NAVCA has been campaigning to make the Bill good for local communities not big business. We have been informed that the Localism Bill may not have an easy passage through parliament. Labour are preparing to challenge it and the Lib Dems may well see challenging parts of this Bill as a way to exert their independence. This means that we have an excellent chance of pressing for the changes we want so the Bill supports local voluntary action and community activity. You can help by contacting your MP to ask them to support changes to the Bill. To help, we have produced a new briefing on the Localism Bill, on behalf of Real Power for Communities, outlining the changes we want to see made to the Bill.
